Blog Swapping with Kelly from Running with Glitter!!!

Can you believe it? My first blog swap!
I'm totally, crazy excited about not only swapping, but who I'm swapping with!
She is funny, talented, cute, writes a wonderful blog and just all around awesome. That, and she's sharing a fun summer project with you today. So here you go, meet Kelly...

Hi! I'm Kelly from Running With GlitterMomma to two and wife to one.
I'm just a simple girl from Oklahoma and a wee bit cheeky. I'd love to share a long list of the talents and accomplishments I have... But, my list is short and my life is very full of happiness.
Running With Glitter is a blog I created as an outlet to share and document my
crafting adventures. When I started the Glitter blog I never knew it would grow like it has and become so much to me.
I'm really excited to be a guest here today. Thank you so very much for having me!
If you get a chance I'd love for you to check out my blog.

Flip Flop Fun!

Today I'm going to share a super easy way to doll up your flip flops. These particular flip flops I made are to match my bathing suit. This is a great project that can be done with the kids. With a few scraps and and several knots your feet will be even cuter in no time!
Here is how you make them.....
  1. Supplies: Fabric Scraps, Pinking Shears or Scissors and Flip Flops
  2. Cup strips of fabric. I Cut mine 3/4 inch wide and about 3 inches long. You will need to adjust this to your taste. The wider strips will be fuller looking and the longer the strips you cut will make them fluffy.
  3. Tie a single knot
  4. Then keep tying , keep adding until you almost fill the strap up.
  5. Do the other side and tie some more.....
  6. Finished! Now slip on your new cute flip flops and head to the pool!

Happy Summer!

xoxo
Kelly

Thanks to those of you that played along this month, you came up with some really fun projects-some that I can't wait to try myself.
The theme this month was lanterns and stars and that's just what we got!

Uncle Sam Blockhead Tutorial!!!

I pledge allegiance...to my growing blockhead collection!
We want you...to make an Uncle Sam...

You'll need the following items:

small 2x4 block for the base
*mine are cut to square at 3.5 x 3.5 inches
wood nose, hat, and eyebrow cut outs
*you could also use fun foam or chipboard if wood isn't available
red, white, blue, and yellow card stock
*I also used a little piece of pink for the nose
white yarn for the beard and hair
flesh toned, pink, white, and black paint
brown or black and red ink pads
glue gun and scissors
mod podge and brushes

Start by sanding any rough edges from your wood pieces. Then paint the base with the flesh toned paint.
Once the paint is dry, blush the cheeks using the red ink pad...

Finish the hat piece next.
Trace the entire hat shape onto the blue card stock. Cut it out, distress the edges, and then adhere it onto your wood/chipboard hat cutout.
Cut the top portion of the hat from the red paper, a stripe from the white, and a star from the yellow. Distress edges and adhere onto the blue hat piece going red, then white, then the star.

Next, finish the nose/mustache and eyebrow pieces by either paper covering or painting. Distress the edges with the brown or black ink pad. The mustache piece is cut from the white card stock and then glued to the back of the nose.

Use the white paint to add highlights to the cheeks and across the nose.

Using the yarn and glue gun, add loops of yarn to the back of the nose piece to form the beard.
Start at one side and work your way across to the other. You can go back and forth as many times as you'd like to achieve the thickness you want.

(You can then either leave the loop in tact or cut them.)

Glue everything into place...

Center the nose between the cheeks.
Place the hat onto the base top about 1/2 an inch down, and then add the eyebrows, gluing them onto the hat. I also added a few strands of yarn for hair.

Finish it off by using the black paint to dot the eyes just above the nose, when dry add white highlights and your Uncle Sam is ready for his debut!!

Happy Crafting.

Peach Melba Ice Cream Cake!!!

Summer officially starts this week!
(Although I am positive it found Texas early!!!)

This is one of my favorite summer desserts.
Super easy, quick to put together and it requires no baking to heat up the house.
Perfect, hope you enjoy it as much as we do...

Peach Melba Ice Cream Cake
Serves 8     20 minute prep + 5 hrs of chill time
1 ring shaped angel food cake (about 13 0z)                                1 pint frozen raspberry sherbet, slightly softened
¼ C raspberry pie filling
FRUIT TOPPING:
2 med. sized fresh peaches, cut into small chunks      1 C fresh raspberries          ½ C raspberry pie filling
1.       Place the cake, top side down, on a plate. Using a long serrated knife, slice a ½ inch layer from the top of the cake, lift the slice off in one piece and reserve.
2.       Using a small serrated knife, cut a trench in the cake ½ inch in from the inner and outer edges to within a ½ inch from the bottom. Carefully remove the center without breaking through the bottom or sides.
3.        Spoon 1 cup of the sherbet into the trench. Spread evenly with the back of a spoon, around the trench. Drizzle with the pie filling and top with the remaining sherbet. Replace the reserved cake top onto the cake and gently press down.
4.       Freeze for 1 hour, then wrap loosely and freeze for at least 4 hours, or overnight.
5.       Make the topping: In a med. bowl, gently mix the peaches, raspberries, and pie filling.
To serve, remove the cake from the freezer and invert it onto a serving plate. Spoon the topping into the center and serve right away.

*I added about a cup of blueberries to the fruit mix cause everything is better with a blueberry on it!

T.G.I.F.-Thank GOODIES it's Friday Linky PaRtY!!!

Okay, I have a confession to make before we start...
I've been so busy, I didn't get a chance to check out last week's party.
Total looser, I know.
You wonderful ladies that take the time to link up here every week deserve some recognition-
and I failed.
My oldest daughter has been gone since Saturday and I've been working on finishing her bedroom.
 What have I learned?
That unlike all the make over shows on HGTV-you can't do it in a day!!! And you should have friends over to help.

So forgive me please, I'll share some favorites of last week's party along with this week's party next week! Wow, that was a mouth full...

Let's see what you've got!
anything goes so make it great!
Share the love by visiting others and telling them how great they are-think of it as a virtual HUG, you know you want one.
By linking you allow me to feature your greatness at a later date giving all credit to you with a link back to your post of course.

Father's Day Photo Gift Ideas!!!

Are you ready? Gift wrapped, ready to go? Cause Father's Day's a coming! And quick!
I have the hardest time with this holiday-I'm totally into homemade sentimental gifts and my husband is so not...
so I try to mix it up a bit, a little bit of feelings + a  little bit of purchased.
Win, win, right? (I hope so...)
This year I'm giving my dad and my hubster the same gift. It was quick, easy, fairly inexpensive, and I'm feeling good that they'll both like it.

I cut out the letters from a sheet of foam core board. Snapped a few quick pictures in the front yard. Used picnik to edit the pictures on-line. Sent them to my local Wal-Greens to have them printed.
Just have to go pick up the frames from Hobby Lobby and I'm done!
I printed out each picture individually and am putting them into a 5 slot matted frame.
I also added in the word "grand" for my dad's set...

Updated pictures and a gift! Hooray...

You might have seen this one before, but I thought it would work here too.

Photo Tic-Tac-Toe Game

I made this for my dad this past Christmas. Super easy, super sweet!
This is one of my girls favorite things to play when we're at my dad's, and my dad absolutely loves it too.
You can find the tutorial HERE!

Good luck with your gifts, enjoy and honor the dads in your life-
Happy Crafting!

Uncle Sam Blockhead and Flag Kits are here!!!

I'm slowly getting myself put back together in regards to my shop and have added 2 new kits.
(I've got several sitting in the sketch pad, just haven't made it much further!)

I'm really excited for this first one...

...meet Uncle Sam!!!
He's the latest installment into my blockhead series and well, I'm kind of crushing on him.
I love the 4th of July so this guy was an obvious choice for me.
He's super easy to put together and looks so cute sitting next to my Star Lantern!

This kit is a bit different from my others in that I'm including all the paper you need to finish him! You'll also find included in this kit the base block, hat cut out, nose and eyebrow cut outs, yarn for the beard and hair, all patterns, and instructions.
You'll find the kit available for purchase at my shop. The tutorial will post next Tuesday.

This next one is my take on a few July must-haves...fireworks and flags!

The flag is created with five 2x2 blocks, a 2x3 block, and a 1/4 inch star cut out.
They are quick and easy to finish with a little paint or spice them up with some fun patterned paper.
And the nice part-they don't take up a ton of shelf space!!!
Super fun for a group of gals or a bunch of munchkins.

The flag set looks fantastic with a little sparkle from the included firework set.
Firework set includes a pre-drilled 3, 4, and 5 inch base piece, wire "wicks", and finishing instructions.
Sand and paint for quick finish or add matching paper to complete the look!

So much fun for a holiday display or table! And if I get with it, there should be a few more summer kits coming soon. For now, check these kits out at my shop and keep an eye out for the tutorials next week...
Happy Crafting!
